NATHNAGAR (BHAGALPUR), August 22: The Voter Adhikar Yatra led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has turned into a public tsunami with lakhs of people participating in it across Bihar.
On the sixth day today, the ‘Yatra’ passed through the Bhagalpur area in Bihar where a multitude of people gathered to listen to Rahul Gandhi. They were raising slogan ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhor’ while referring to the vote frauds reported from Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
Addressing the huge gathering at Nathnagar, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Election Commission of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party together were bent upon destroying democracy & the Constitution, and stealing the votes of people.
Gandhi also introduced a former Agniveer, Amarnath Jaiswal, on the occasion. Jaiswal had suffered a severe hand injury, losing one of his fingers in the line of duty. He was discharged from the Army within two years, without a single benefit that a regular soldier would get under such conditions.
Gandhi said that the Modi government had shut all the options and avenues for the youth. He noted that the Agniveer scheme was most ill-advised, citing the example of Amarnath Jaiswal, who has been left to his own fate after two years of service without getting any benefit even after suffering from physical disability.
The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said not only had the Modi government brought the Agniveer scheme, that closed the option of joining the defence forces for the youth, it also destroyed the small and medium businesses through demonetisation, which led to widespread unemployment.
Now, Gandhi added, Modi was trying to destroy the Constitution that guaranteed ‘one person, one vote’. He said, with the Special Intensive Revision, the Modi government in collusion with the Election Commission of India was disenfranchising people who were supporters of the Congress or the Rashtriya Janata Dal. He gave the example of a Congress supporter whose name had been deleted from the electoral rolls.
Reacting to Prime Minister Modi’s remarks about SIR during his Bihar visit today, Gandhi questioned his silence about the vote frauds in states like Maharashtra, Haryana and Karnataka. “The truth is that the Prime Minister along with the Election Commission of India and the Bharatiya Janata Party are bent upon destroying the democracy & Constitution, and snatching away your votes”, he remarked.
Gandhi was accompanied by senior INDIA leaders, including former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav and others.
