PATNA; Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar was physically hit by a Bakhtiyarpur youth on Sunday evening at a public function . Shankar Kumar Verma alias Chhotu Kumar,(32), a local youth from Mohammadpur village was immediately taken into custody by the security personnel.
The incident took place in presence of the district magistrate and senior SP of Patna at Bakhtiyarpur hospital premises, where Nitish had gone to garland the statue of a freedom fighter, Sheelbhadra Yajee, a close associate of Jayaprakash Narain.
While Chief Minister was garlanding the statue, the youth came literally running, climbed the rostrum and physically hit him on his back He was immediately caught by CM security staff .
Later, police claimed the youth was mentally upset.
The incident is considered a major security lapse and an inquiry had been ordered.
Chief Minister asked the police not to take any action against the youth as he was mentally sick. He also asked administration to arrange treatment of his mental illness.
Nitish Kumar had his schooling at Bakhtiyarpur. He is visiting his old Lok Sabha constituencies in Nalanda and Barh daily for the last one week.
