PATNA: Rohtas police on late Friday midnight arrested five time MLA of BJP,Jawahar Prasad for his alleged involvement in communal violence at Sasaram during Ramnavmi celebrations on March 31.
Police also arrested two former presidents of Rohtas district BJP,Shivnath Chaudhury and Sonu Sinha.According to district SP,Vinit Kumar,non-bailable warrants were issued by the court to arrest of BJP leaders.Police are also in search of six others against whom NBW had been issued by the court.
So far,65 people have been jailed in connection with communal vioilence in which one person was killed and 36 injured.Police also afrrested Md Shahnawaj Alam alias Lakhani on charges of instigating communal riots,SP said.
Chief Minister,Nitish Kumar defended arrest of the BJP leaders and said his apprehensions had come true.The police will take action against those involved in the communal disturbances,irrespective of their political affiliations. “We never protect any one nor act without evidence:,CM said.
There was a conspiracy to create trouble and disturb religious and communal harmony.Investigations are still underway to expose the people involved  in the communal disturbances at Biharsharif and Sasaram during Ramnavami festival and truth would come out soon,Nitish said.
Former union minister and member of Lok Sabha from Patna Saheb,Ravi Shankar Prasad on Friday regretted appeasement policy of the chief minister and said police arrested five time legislator,Jawahar Prasad from his Sasaram residence after midnight.He has been framed.Why did police take about two months to arrest Jawahar Prasad,if he was really involved in riiots,he questioned.He has been made a scapegoat,Ravi Shankar alleged.
Police had arrested Kundan Kumar, convenor of Nalanda district unit of Bajrang Dal and six other BJP leaders onh charges of their involvement in communal riots at Biharsharif on March 31,April 1.
