PATNA:Former union minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee led government and “famed” actor,septugenerian,Shatrughan Sinha will try his luck to re-enter Lok Sabha from Asnasol in West Bengal where polling his scheduled on April 14.
Shatrughan Sinha represented Patna Saheb as BJP candidate till 2019 and in Rajya Sabha too as BJP leader from Bihar.
He was defeated by the the then union minister,Ravi Shankar Prasad in 2019 when BJP denied renomination to the film actor turned BJP leader.Shatrughan joined the Congress and unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha elections.
He had fielded his son,Lav Sinha in 2020 Bihar assembly elections from Patna Central constituency against BJP,but he too failed.
Shatrughan later joined TMC headed by Mamta Banerjee and has been nominated as party candidate from Asansol,where by-elections was necessitated because of resignation of the then union minister and BJP leader,Babool Supriyo who resigned his Lok Sabha seat to contest the assembly elections as TMC nominee.
Asansol on Jharkhand-Bihar-Odisha trijunction has cosmopolitan character because of industries and coal mines,It has a sizable number of voters with Bihar origin which had helped elect the Bihari surname candidates in the past.Till date,no BJP candidate or Janasangh nominee could be elected from Asansol.
