PATNA: The ruling Janata Dal (U) on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the BJP for spending astronomical amount on advertising its achievements.
Party spokesman and former MLC Ranbir Nandan said that the amount spent by the BJP government on publicity has increased manifold in the last two decades. “In 2003-04, the BJP had spent only Rs 17 crore on publicity but it rose to Rs 470 crore in 2014-15. After that the BJP stoppedgiving details of its expenditure on publicity to mislead people,” he said.
The JDU leader said that the BJP government spent 63.3 percent of the total amount earmarked on the ‘Beti Padhao beti Bachao’ scheme on its publicity but ignored its proper implementation. “Similar is the case of Swachh Bharat, Make in India and other schemes,” he added.
He accused that the UPA government had spent an average of Rs 700 crore during last three years of its tenure but it increased to Rs 1300 crore by 2018-19. “The major portion of the money goes to such media houses which work as mouthpieces of the government and promote communal hatred,” he added.
