PATNA:  Janata Da (U) spokesman and former MLC Ranbir Nandan on Tuesday said that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is the brand ambassador of women empowerment throughout the cuntry as he had unveiled an ambitious women empowerment policy to provide various opportunities to women and ensure their participation in development.

 

The JDU leader said that the development of any country largely depended on the empowerment of women and Nitish had taken a lead in this connection. “The enrollment of girls in schools was only 30 percent but it had increased substantially ever since the Bihar chief minister introduced several schemes including the cycle scheme after 2005. The number of boys and girls appearing in 10th and 12th examination is equal today,” he added.
Ranbir said that the Nitish Kumar government provided 33 percent reservation in government jobs for women and Mahila Samriddhi Yojana for making scheduled caste women self-reliant. “It was on women’s advice that prohibition was introduced in Bihar. The government has also provided 50 percent reservation for women in local bodies,” he added.
He said that altogether 27.8 percent women are 10th pass today while 12.6 percent women in the age-group of 15 to 64 years are working including 7.8 percent women who are holding senior posts.
