Patna City, 07 January: Social workers, politicians, litterateurs and cultural workers remembered and paid tribute to the eternal poet Khan Bahadur Syed Mohammad Shad Azimabadi on his 98th death anniversary in a memorial function.
Paid homage to him with Fateha by offering chadar and flowers at his tomb at Shad Azimabadi Path, Langar Gali, Hajiganj. The memorial meeting organized under the aegis of social-cultural organization Navshakti Niketan was presided over by Dr. Anil Sulabh, President of Bihar Hindi Sahitya Sammelan. The program was conducted by General Secretary Kamalnayan Srivastava.
On this occasion, senior poet Mrityunjay Mishra ‘Karunesh’ and litterateur Dr. Ishrat Subuhi were honoured with Shad Azimabadi Samman 2025 and Subhchandra Sinha, Shweta Ghazal, Shama Kausar and Farida Anjum were honoured with Sahitya and Samaj Seva Samman by giving them shawl, symbol and plant. Speaking as the chief guest, Bihar Legislative Assembly Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav described Shad as a timeless poet and said that Azimabad has been the work place of litterateurs and revolutionaries. Every possible effort is expected to be made to protect the memory of Shad.
Kamalnayan Srivastava said that the heart of the country beats in Shad’s poems. Shad was a poet in favour of national unity.
In his presidential address, Bihar Hindi Sahitya Sammelan President Dr. Anil Sulabh said that Shad was a complete Urdu poet. Today there is a need to bring Shad’s works into life. Navshakti Niket’s president Ramashankar Prasad announced to organize ‘Ek Shaam Shad Ke Naam’ in the month of June and publish his works after getting them translated into Hindi.
Patna’s deputy mayor Reshmi Chandravanshi demanded from the government to publish Shad’s rare works in Hindi and other Indian languages.
The speakers said that not even installing the foundation stone of Shad Azimabadi Path and not constructing Shad Azimabadi Park even after the foundation stone was laid are examples of government neglect. The speakers demanded from the government to declare Shad’s tomb as a national museum and to issue a commemorative postage stamp in his honor.
On this occasion Dr. Anil Sulabh, senior litterateur Bhagwati Prasad Dwivedi, Mr. Anant Arora, Madhuresh Narayan, Kamal Kishore Verma ‘Kamal’, Faizan Ali Fahm, Baban Prasad Verma, Dr. Ehsan Sham, Premkiran, Dr. Nisar Ahmed (Shaad’s great grandson), Akbar Raza Jamshed also expressed their views. Faizan Ali Fahm gave the vote of thanks. The function concluded with these lines of Dr. Kaleem Aaziz- ‘Today is your death anniversary, come Shad / Meet us writers too Shad / Who will understand you in this era / We have become Laxman Saw Shad. The poets and writers present on the occasion paid tribute to Shad with their performances.
